How Can I Be More Assertive in the Workplace?
Dear Yvonne,
Could you please recommend books/ videos/ courses that teach you to be more assertive in the workplace i.e., standing up for yourself, respectfully 'tooting your horn', and demanding what you believe you deserve? Thank you!
Yvonne says,
This is a great question. Confidence is such an important skill to build and harness because it impacts so many areas of your life. There are many ways to look at confidence and many strategies that can help you get more resilient, secure, and grounded in who you are. Confidence and courage go hand in hand in life, and the workplace, and here are some of the resources that have changed my attitude towards asserting myself and confidently sharing my achievements.
The Memo by Minda Harts, Daring Greatly by Brene Brown, The Confidence Gap by Russ Harris, Success, Failure and the Drive to Keep Creating by Elizabeth Gilbert (TED Talk), The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos (Podcast), Self Compassion by Kristin Neff, Ph.D. Nourishment of Self-Esteem by Margo Jordan (TED Talk) How to be a Better Human with Monica Wadhwa (Podcast) How to Build Self-confidence by CeCe Olisa (TED Talk) How to Build Your Confidence & Spark It In Others by Brittany Packnett Cunningham (TED Talk).
Remember, at the end of the day, the higher you value yourself, the more confident you’ll be. Your sense of worth is tied to your ability to feel secure and grounded. It erases self-doubt, and even when it comes, you can show resilience and manoeuvre through any tough situation. Rooting for you!
