I Struggle with Interview Anxiety- How Do I Overcome This And Ace My Interviews?
Dear Yvonne,
I struggle with interviews, especially job interviews. No matter how well-prepared I am, I get so anxious that I forget things and can't articulate my thoughts properly.
How do I overcome this anxiety, how do I ace interviews?
Yvonne Says,
First of all, I want you to know that it’s okay to feel nervous about interviews. In fact, most people do—even the ones you think have it all together. But the good news is, you can turn that anxiety into something powerful.
Let’s talk through it, step by step:
1. Reframe Your Anxiety: What you're feeling isn’t just nerves—it's excitement! Shift your mindset from "I'm going to mess up" to "I’m excited to show up and give my best." This helps calm your body and mind.
2. Practice in Real-Life Scenarios: Do mock interviews with friends or mentors. The more you practice, the easier it gets. Think of it as training your brain to handle pressure.
3. Focus on Your Why: Shift the focus away from yourself and think about the impact you’ll make. When you’re focused on your mission, it’s easier to feel confident.
4. Ground Yourself: Before the interview, take a few deep breaths—inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4. This will help calm your nerves and bring you back to the present.
5. Embrace Imperfection: It’s okay if you forget something or stumble. Being authentic and honest about your nerves can work in your favor.
6. Visualize Success: Before the big day, visualize yourself calm, confident, and doing great. It trains your brain for success.
Remember, you're more than just your interview. You’ve got everything you need to succeed. You’ve got this!
